A proposed model for measuring the performance of sustainability foundations in Iraqi universities | نموذج مقترح لقياس اداء اسس الاستدامة بالجامعات العراقية

Sustainability in higher education is of exceptional importance due to the pivotal role that education plays in the development of societies and their protection from environmental impacts, most notably global warming and energy depletion. Universities seek to build an ideal model of human and material behavior in the field of sustainability that can bring about real change on campus and be a model for others to follow in their daily behavior to contribute to a sustainable environment that guarantees a better life for society. In order to achieve sustainability at the university, a research approach was followed that includes three important stages: the inductive approach and providing basic data, followed by the comparative analytical approach and identifying the basic trends for achieving sustainability, followed by the applied approach and comparing the experiences adopted by universities at the global, regional and national levels, and how to apply sustainability requirements to the reality of universities and future expansions. The comparative research approach of international, regional and local universities showed that Iraqi universities (Al-Qadisiyah University as a study model) have started implementing the sustainability approach slowly due to the general conditions that Iraq is going through. The most important foundations for achieving sustainability are preparing urban and architectural designs according to the concepts of sustainability and green buildings. Architectural and structural modifications must be made to existing buildings to achieve the pillars of sustainability, such as rationalizing water and electricity consumption, introducing renewable energy elements, recycling waste and consumables, reusing gray water for irrigation purposes, reconnecting roads and paths to each other to reduce dependence on transportation, expanding green areas, and rationalizing irrigation water consumption through the use of modern irrigation methods and spraying and dripping technology. The research concludes by identifying the foundations of sustainability for Iraqi universities, spreading the culture of sustainability, and its importance in achieving the central goal of building a green and sustainable university campus and investing the campus resources in a way that ensures their sustainability and does not waste them to prevent their depletion. A model was proposed to measure the sustainability performance of Iraqi universities in general, in addition to applying it to Al-Qadisiyah University, the current reality and the updated design.
تحتل الاستدامة في التعليم العالي أهمية استثنائية للدور المحوري الذي يلعبه التعليم في تطور المجتمعات وحمايتها من الاثار البيئية وفي مقدمتها ظاهرة الاحتباس الحراري ونضوب مصادر الطاقة. تسعى الجامعات الى بناء نموذج مثالي للسلوك البشري والمادي في مجال الاستدامة يستطيع أن يحدث تغيير حقيقي في الحرم الجامعي ويكون نموذج يتبعه الاخرون في سلوكهم اليومي للمساهمة في بيئة مستدامة تضمن للمجتمع حياة أفضل. لغرض تحقيق الاستدامة في الجامعة، تم اتباع منهج بحثي يتضمن ثلاثة مراحل مهمة هي المنهج الاستقرائي وتوفير البيانات الاساسية يليه المنهج التحليلي المقارن وتحديد الاتجاهات الاساسية لتحقيق الاستدامة ثم اعقبه المنهج التطبيقي ومقارنة التجارب التي تبنتها الجامعات على المستوى العالمي والاقليمي والوطني، وكيفية تطبيق متطلبات الاستدامة على واقع حال الجامعات وعلى التوسعات المستقبلية. تبين من خلال المنهج البحثي المقارن للجامعات العالمية والاقليمية والمحلية ان الجامعات العراقية (جامعة القادسية نموذج دراسي) شرعت في تطبيق منهج الاستدامة بخطوات بطيئة نتيجة للظروف العامة التي يمر بها العراق .أهم الاسس لتحقيق الاستدامة وهو اعداد التصاميم الحضرية والمعمارية وفقا لمفاهيم الاستدامة والابنية الخضراء، ولابد من اجراء التعديلات المعمارية والانشائية على الابنية القائمة لتحقيق اركان الاستدامة كالترشيد في استهلاك الماء والكهرباء وادخال عناصر الطاقة المتجددة وتدوير النفايات والمستهلكات واعادة استخدام المياه الرمادية لأغراض الري واعادة ارتباط الطرق والممرات ببعضها لتقليل الاعتماد على وسائط النقل وتوسعة المناطق الخضراء مع ترشيد استهلاك ماء الري من خلال استخدام وسائل السقي الحديث وتكنلوجيا الرش والتنقيط. يختم البحث بالوصول الى تحديد اسس استدامة الجامعات العراقية ونشر ثقافة الاستدامة واهميتها في تحقيق الهدف المركزي المتمثل ببناء حرم جامعي اخضر ومستدام واستثمار موارد الحرم بطريقة تضمن ديمومتها وعدم التفريط بها منعا لنضوبها. وتم اقتراح  نموذج لقياس اداء الاستدامة الجامعات العراقية عامة فضلا عن تطبيقه على جامعة القادسية الواقع الحال والتصميم المحدث .
