Studying the socio-cultural patterns and their impact on the urban formation of Siwa Oasis

Abstract

Studying different patterns, whether environmental; social; cultural; dogmatic; Political, or economical, and their impact on the formation of the built environment is very important because any tiny change in any pattern can strongly affect the process of formation and development, whether on the architectural or urban level. Therefore, this research is studying some of these patterns and their impact on the urban fabric of Siwa Oasis and extracting some of its distinctive features in order to preserve the unique way of building that characterizes the oasis, help preserve and revive it by laying some design foundations for the development any future extensions. Preserving historical places is an essential pillar for the growth of any society's economy, and historical places are one of the essential elements of tourism attraction for any society. Egypt has a huge stock of historical urban and architectural heritage, but it suffers from several problems, including the ineffectiveness of conservation programs and the local people’s lack of awareness about historical heritage importance and the need to preserve it, causing problems for weak community participation.
